And Steve Jobs, CEO Apple Inc., said – “Stay Hungry Stay Foolish!” (part 1)

This post is dedicated to budding Entrepreneurs of BIT Mesra, especially to Himanshu Bablani, Arjun Goyal, Aditya Patawari and Pawan Gupta.

One of the greatest Entrepreneur of all times, Steve Jobs needs no introduction. MacBook and iPhone have revolutionized the IT industry. However his statement ‘Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish’ might need some.

‘Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish’ is what Steve Jobs told the graduating class of Stanford University in his commencement address to the class of 2005. Yes he asked them to Stay Hungry and Stay Foolish - just like did in his time! Wondering why? Read on.

People at their death bed do not regret for what they did,but for what they did not do when they had the chance. Entrepreneurship is for those people who like to seize their moment, so they would not wake up one day with regrets. Of course they see markets and opportunities. But they choose to be who they are!

They ask themselves – “Is it what I really want to do? Will it make me happy? Is it what I really want to be?” And they realize it’s meaningless for themselves to sell soap just because you are paid to do so. Though being a corporate slave is an easy option, a safe path, but they simply don’t fit there. They know they have talents to pursue their real dreams – to do something bigger and better than to get a job!

And so they do things – which others find foolish. And in the process they stay hungry for sometime more, as they have no job to feed themselves. More than anything they have the courage to continue despite the repeated failures they encounter!

Research by IIM A classifies three kinds of Entrepreneurs:

The Believers (Aasthik’s eh?): People who knew entrepreneurship was the Chosen Path. They took the plunge straight after their MBA or after working barely a couple of hours. Any they persevered until they made it big!

The Opportunists (The Sniffers):  These entrepreneurs did not plan to take this path but when opportunity knocked – they seized it. Their stories go to show that you don’t have to be ‘born with it’, you can develop an entrepreneurial bent of mind at any age!

The Alternate Vision(Visionaries): These individuals are using entrepreneurship to create social impact or as a platform which allows them creative expression. They envision the future and try to make it a beautiful one!

So which one are you? Don’t you want to get listed alongside Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Henry Ford, Mark Zuckerberg, and Larry Page – they were all college dropouts… Don’t you want people to remember you like they remember Dhirubhai Ambani(an illiterate!) or Narayan Murthy or Jamshed G Tata or Ratan Tata?
Please go through this article on Entrepreneurship.

The author has explained Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurism in a fantastic way.A few lines from his post are:
Entrepreneurship is for fools:
Its for people who believe so blindly in something, that nothing will stop them from achieving it. They could go mad, lose their marriages, break relations with family, give up their education – nothing will stop them.An entrepreneur is someone who lives by the words ‘No Matter What’.

So I too, advice you to ‘Stay Hungry and Stay Foolish’ because Hunger provides you the drive and foolishness makes you wiser.
