Stranger than Fiction...

In the past one year, I have had so many experiences, which I would like share with you. These experiences have been an eye opener for me. But I am not sure if I am allowed to share this openly. Society, Job, Friends these put many restrictions, and these restrictions need to be respected so that the balance is not disturbed.

Today I am going to share a few experiences with you. Due to my job, I have been traveling across the country, to the best of the colleges in India. And by best I mean - NIT Tiruchirapalli, NIT Surathkal, NIT Warangal, NIT Calicut, ISM Dhanbad, NIT Nagpur, NIT Raipur, NIT Rourkela & MIT Manipal. [ No doubts IITs are the best, however, recruitment for IITs beings in November-December, so as of now they are not in the list.]

When I was graduating, I had heard so much of these institutes. These institutes were considered to be "sacred" in terms of student quality and education. At the same time, being in one of the similar institutes, I had worked hard, [perhaps I was a bit careless about my CGPA, but yes I have worked really hard in gaining practical knowledge] and it pained me to see that many of my classmates, did not want to work at all. For them it was all about enjoying life. They were sure that they had done their part [by which they meant their rank in AIEEE]. They took their future for granted.

This same thing is being continued till date - in all the colleges. I realized that only a few students are actually serious about their careers. And it is because of these students that the college runs and has name. Still we see so many companies recruiting so many people with such huge packages. The reason being they have requirement. When they have requirement they have to hire people even if it means compromising with the quality. Because, believe it or not, on an average, these NITians and IITians are the best we have got.

So that makes me wonder, why is that these people do not study? Why don't they take their career seriously anymore? May be its because they've been spoiled by their Seniors and their seniors' attitude. Or may be because of this tradition called Campus Recruitment. Unfortunately, my generation did not have to go out in search of jobs and face much interviews [well, it still happens in cases where people graduate from not-so-famous engineering colleges]. My Generation has yet to see a proper recession. They need to realize it now.

But given the requirement of various industries and companies, the students from these Branded Colleges will reap the benefits of their AIEEE/IIT-JEE Rank, while many students in the not-so-famous colleges who are really good, will often find it difficult to get good jobs initially, they may get their deserving positions eventually though.

I am reminded of the old hindi saying -
"राम चंद्र कह गये सिया से ऐसा कलयुग आएगा
हंस चुगेगा दाना, कौवा मोती खायेगा "

To conclude, life is indeed strange - infact its stranger than fiction.
